At the intersection of Black History Month and a month dedicated to love is the history of Black Love 💕. It's fitting to end this Black History Month Series on Black Love with a real life fairytale romance - the love of @realtamiaworld and @realgranthill.

In 1996, Grammy Award-winning R&B sensation Anita Baker told Tamia that she knew the perfect man for her at the Soul Train Music Awards. With Tamia living in Canada, she didn't officially meet Grant until 6 months later. 

On their first date, Grant left his wallet at home on purpose to see what Tamia would do. Grant tested her, but she rose to the occasion and paid for the date.

Grant would take flights from Detroit to Los Angeles just to spend time with Tamia and then take a red-eye back home for practice the next day. Those are the signs of a determined man.

As Grant told Jet Magazine, “When we first started seeing each other that first two or three months, I kind of knew that this was the one,” he said.

And so we watched Grant, a beloved NBA star, court this beautiful songstress, Tamia for three years. And while we saw their public appearances, they kept their love private and protected.

In July 24, 1999, Grant and Tamia were married by Grant's cousin in a beautiful ceremony in Battlecreek, MI.

As Tamia told Essence Magazine, "Whether we’re together or apart, we always start the day with “good morning” and say “goodnight” to each other before the end of the day. It may seem like a little thing, but communication is the most important thing for us."

Fast forward, Tamia and Grant have two beautiful daughters together.

And almost 22 years later, they've created the kind of love that developed like a real life fairytale - with an introduction, a courtship, and with us ultimately watching them ride off into the sunset for almost 22 years.
